My name is Tom. I cannot pick and match fabric for quilt making. Colors confuse me. Add prints, and/or solids and I'm lost. Throw small and large prints into the mix and it's all over. Don't try to confuse me with the color wheel and other such aids. This ol dog can't learn any new tricks. I can barely follow directions. I made a stab at picking fabrics as seen in the first photo. I like red. It's my favorite color. Sent the first photo to daughter Tracy in California for help. She knows her ol dad needs help. She said add some blues. That was a very polite way of saying "yikes! too much red". I dug around and found some blues and added them to the second photo. It then dawned on me that this is fabric that Tracy sent to me to begin with. She said use the bottom row plus the red at the top right, or the top row with a navy. That was easy....Stop laughing you all! I think I'll take photos of all my fabric, number them and let Tracy just send me the numbers to use.

Ha, maybe I should start sending her pictures of my fabrics before I start a project too.
Give yourself time. The more quilting you do, the more comfortable you'll get with it. I often cheat and use 5 or 6 fabrics fromt he same line & then toss in 2 or 3 from a similar line, just to add some contrast.
Quilters see fabric different. I'd use the top row and add the large apple and cherry print from the bottom because you have no other large print.
Red is my favorite color too. Your partner can add a color if she wants to break up the reds.
My partner is sending me 20+ colors and they all will be fun together.
Picking the fabric is the hardest thing for me to do.
I think you did a fine job! You could add light/dark blues, yellow, greens or even black..it really doesn't matter as long as there is small/large prints and solids...when sewn together, they always look great to the eye!
Looks good to me, I agree that your partner may want to add other colors from her stash. I have a quilt I made with florals , batiks and homespun and it turned out rather nice. It is the brown and blue one in my flickr pics. When someone told me there were no rules in quilting, I ran with it.
